Entry Scheme And Intake Statistics

Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.)

Eligibility

For the Bachelor Of Technology programme, candidates are expected to have achieved a minimum of 45% marks in aggregate, with above 50% in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics combined together for General and OBC candidates. The criteria may be relaxed up to 5% for SC/ST and PWD candidates.

Candidates seeking to take admission after completing a Diploma course in their respective department at CIT Kokrajhar must have secured a minimum of 65% marks (relaxed up to 5% for SC/ST/PWD candidates). Candidates seeking direct entry may not be below 17 or above 21 years of age at the time of application. For SC and ST candidates, this may be relaxed up to three years on either side.

For lateral entry, a diploma in an AICTE recognized related institution or branch of Engineering/Technology with 60% marks or equivalent CGPA for GEN/OBC (relaxed upto 5% for SC/ST/PWD) and/or B.Sc. (with Mathematics as one of the compulsory subjects) with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent CGPA for GEN/OBC (relaxed upto 5% for SC/ST/PWD) is required. For candidates seeking lateral entry, they may not have crossed 40 years of age, if from General category at the time of application. For SC, ST and PWD categories, the relaxed age limit is 45 years. For women and OBC category, the age limit is 43 years.

Bachelor of Design (B.Des.)

Eligibility

Candidates seeking direct entry to a B.Des. course must have passed their 10+2 under the streams of Arts or Science or Commerce with a minimum of 50% for General and OBC categories (may be relaxed up to 5% for SC, ST and PWD category). Candidates must be between 17 to 21 years of age at the time of application.

For lateral entry, a Diploma in Animation and Multimedia from CIT Kokrajhar with 65% marks for General and OBC category (relaxed upto 5% for SC/ST/PWD) is recommended. For candidates seeking lateral entry, they may not have crossed 40 years of age, if from General category at the time of application. For SC, ST and PWD categories, the relaxed age limit is 45 years. For women and OBC category, the age limit is 43 years.

Intake

Each branch of the Bachelor of Technology programme listed above accepts no more than 60 students per academic term, with 45 students from direct entry method and 15 from lateral entry method.

Diploma Courses

Eligibility

For the Diploma courses offered at CIT Kokrajhar, aspirant candidates must have passed the HSLC examination or equivalent qualifying examination with 45% marks in aggregate and 50% of marks in Science, Mathematics (or Advanced Mathematics) and English taken together for General category and OBC category candidates (relaxed upto 5% for ST/SC/PWD category). The age limits imposed according to category are as follows:

  2. SC/ST and PWD Category : 24 years
  3. Female Candidates : 22 years

Medical Requirement (All Courses)

Admission into any of the of CIT Kokrajhar university programmes is subject to the candidates being declared medically fit by the Institute Medical Officer or a medical officer of a government funded hospital for the purpose. The necessary fees prescribed by the medical officer shall be borne by the candidates themselves and not by the institute.

All aspirants wishing to apply must appear for the required CIT Kokrajhar entrance examination – CITEE, CITDEE, CITLET or CITBDAT. The above mentioned qualifications shall only permit the candidate entry to the examination, the results of which shall be considered by the selections committee. A number of other entrance examinations are also deemed valid, such as the Polytechnic Admission Test (PAT) conducted by the SCTE, Assam for Diplomas, the JEE Main organised by CBSE New Delhi for B.Tech., (no admission test for lateral entry on B.Tech applicants having completed diplomas in the same academic year and received qualifying marks) and UCEED conducted by IIT Bombay for B.Des. programme.

The institute will follow the following reservation policy when choosing to offer places to the candidates.

The Central Institute of Technology, Kokrajhar also provides a guest house, reserved for guests arriving at the college. They have frequent visitors from IIT Guwahati and most visiting lecturers are put up here. A seminar hall together with the living quarters forms the premise of the guest house.

Safety

The college follows a strict anti – ragging policy across its campus and hostels. Students found guilty of and/or found participating in unethical acts of ragging are deemed to be penalised by the college and by legal authorities. This might include being debarred from a particular examination, or the entire semester of examinations. Serious offences might result in the expulsion of the student from the dormitory or a removal of the student’s name from the college rolls. Admitted students are required to submit an affidavit on stamp paper, duly notarised by the Oath Commissioner, according to a prescribed format, stating and confirming that they shall not engage in acts of illegal nature which may be considered as ragging. For students wishing to avail of the hostel facility, a separate affidavit must be produced on another leaf of stamp paper for the purpose.

When on campus, the institute is known to deal with other forms of unethical activity, such as harassment (sexual and non sexual), use of narcotics, unwarranted violence and other activities very seriously. In situations that may arise out of a student practising unethical behaviour, it appears by the rules and regulations that the decision of the Director or the Disciplinary Committee shall be final and binding.

An internal complaint committee is available on campus, where students can individually and anonymously approach the concerned authorities with any complaints or problems they might be facing. This is headed by the Director of the institute and monitored regularly.

Placements

Though a young institution, CIT Kokrajhar placement records are extremely promising. The Training and Placement Cell oversees all the campusing formalities, placing students in jobs during and after their courses. It provides a number of internships as well.

Students are allowed to undertake summer training and internships parallely in reputed firms like Jio, Airtel and in other institutes like NIT (National Institute of Technology), IIT (Indian Institute of Technology), and so on. A number of companies, including Amazon, SRD Food Products Pvt. Ltd., Wipro Technologies, Hewlett Packard (HP) and Simplex Solutions Pvt. Ltd. are known to have visited the institution. Certain reviews also encourage students to try and achieve their own placements after the completion of their course. The professors on campus provide ready assistance for students wishing to apply to companies on their own. A number of students have been placed in some of the best multinational companies, such as Wipro and Nestle Foods.

There is a strong alumni network to cater to the students. Many enrolled candidates have appreciated the help provided by the network in giving them the opportunity to secure a position. Seminars are regularly held to train the students on life skills. In 2017, students secured packages from 4 to 5 lakhs per annum as an opening salary after graduating from the B.Tech. course. Others went on to pursue higher education in institutes of repute across the country. The CIT Kokrajhar recruitment process usually takes place in the penultimate part of the academic session, just before students appear for their final semester examinations.

Festivals, Extras And Events

A number of festivals are organised by the institution to cater to the students. The annual cultural fest is called “Ecstasy”, which is organised with the active participation of the students and faculty.

The annual technical fest is called “Techcracy”, held around the month of November involving the activities and contribution of all technical departments and inter college participation.

The institution also has a newsletter, which goes by the name of “Jaikhlong”. The computer magazine of the college is called “Sanjunthi”.

Additionally, the Training and Placement Cell also operates an autonomous platform called Inventech, which is a Skill Development programme, catering to students on the campus, so that they can improve their technical and professional skills, thus enhancing their work ability.
